They are like little windows in a house: the squares. You can look inside, you can look outside. Unfamiliar — the canvas in a square shape, four sides of the same length. This harmonious unity is considered a symbol of strength, calm, stability. And that’s exactly what challenges me: strong layers of paint bring the first unrest into the uniformity, irritating color nuances turn the windows into eyes that look at you with curiosity. And the mounted paper and cardboard in the middle of the canvas-window-eyes tell you: from calm, dynamism was born — a new structure. Creating fascinating paper textures on small canvases in the style of Jean Fautrier — that’s what inspires me. hb
