They are like little windows in a house: the squares. You can look in, you can look out. Unfamiliar, four sides of equal length, the canvas in a small square, here measuring 50 x 50 cm. This harmonious unity is a symbol of strength, calm, stability. And that is precisely what challenges me to disrupt this balance. Strong color application creates initial unrest in the uniformity. And irritating color nuances turn the windows into eyes that look at you curiously. And the mounted paper and cardboard in the middle of the canvas window eyes tell you: calmness has given birth to dynamism, a new structure. Conjuring up exciting structures out of paper on small canvases in the style of Jean Fautrier inspires me.
