MY STORY BEHIND
It is a pitch-black day, my streak of bad luck threatens to overwhelm me, to choke the air like the black lava flow that buries everything beneath it. But giving up, seeing everything in black, is not an option. The Genesis, words from the story of creation, suddenly appear like a warning sign on the screen and summon me: “Come, let us form clay bricks and bake them into bricks. So they used baked bricks as stones and bitumen as mortar.” (Gen. 11:3). It fell from my eyes like scales, like an epiphany. Like the longed-for light after an ominous storm, bathing everything in the fiery red of the evening sky. A door opens on the coarse white linen. And colors sprout unhindered and full of energy, uniting. And the delicate green and the longing yellow combine in full variation with the warm red tones and push back the bitumen, taming it into an accessory. But what an ingredient! The deep, shiny bitumen is breathtaking. It is the blackest black there is. It is pure nature. And it complements the newly acquired variety of colors magnificently. Just as new life emerges on lava and makes everything fateful forgotten, wipes it aside and allows it to sprout and flourish. So that a new jungle emerges, a primeval forest on the canvas. hb
